During a recent visit, we had the opportunity to tour Quinnipiac’s Health Sciences campus in North Haven, Connecticut. While the visit focused specifically on the health sciences programs, it provided valuable insight into the university’s academic culture, student experience, and career-oriented approach.
A University with a Professional Focus
Quinnipiac is especially well known for its health sciences and nursing programs. Students can choose from a wide range of majors, including exercise science, medical microbiology and immunology, radiologic sciences, and diagnostic medical sonography.
One of the university’s biggest strengths is the number of accelerated and dual-degree pathways available to students. Programs like the 3+3 Doctor of Physical Therapy pathway and the accelerated BA/BS-JD program allow motivated students to streamline their education and move efficiently into graduate study. The university also offers several combined master’s and doctoral options for students pursuing healthcare careers.
Beyond health sciences, Quinnipiac is also recognized for:

Inside the Health Sciences Campus
The North Haven campus houses many of Quinnipiac’s health sciences programs and features impressive hands-on learning facilities. During the visit, we toured:
- Exercise science labs equipped with specialized fitness and performance testing equipment where students can study human movement, strength, endurance, and rehabilitation techniques in a practical setting.
- Advanced imaging labs featuring CT scan, MRI, and ultrasound technology that allow students in radiologic sciences and sonography programs to gain familiarity with the same types of equipment used in hospitals and medical centers.
- Clinical simulation spaces designed to recreate real patient-care settings where students can practice clinical decision-making, patient interaction, and teamwork before entering internships or professional placements.
- Mock apartment environments used for occupational and physical therapy training. These spaces help students learn how to work with patients in everyday living situations, such as navigating kitchens, bathrooms, stairs, and other home environments that are often central to rehabilitation and recovery.
- High-tech medical manikins that simulate realistic medical scenarios and patient responses. One simulation model even “gave birth” during the tour, demonstrating the kinds of immersive training experiences available to students in healthcare-related fields.
The emphasis on applied learning was impossible to miss. Quinnipiac clearly prioritizes giving students direct exposure to the kinds of environments and equipment they will encounter in professional healthcare settings.
For students who learn best through doing rather than purely classroom-based instruction, this approach could be a major advantage.
Campus Structure and Location
Quinnipiac operates across three campuses:
- Mount Carmel (the main undergraduate campus)
- York Hill (home to upperclassmen housing and athletic facilities)
- North Haven (primarily health sciences and graduate programs)
The campuses each serve different purposes, though the separation may make the university feel somewhat less centralized than other colleges. The York Hill student center stood out during the visit, featuring:

- Pool tables
- A campus bar

The surrounding area feels suburban, with most shopping and restaurants located in nearby New Haven, about 15 minutes away. Students looking for a classic walkable college-town environment may find the immediate area quieter than expected. However, Quinnipiac’s location does provide relatively easy access to both Boston and New York City.
Student Culture
The students we met during the visit came across as focused, career-oriented, and intentional about their goals. Many already knew exactly which healthcare profession they planned to pursue.
This professional focus seems to shape much of the campus culture within the health sciences programs. Students appeared highly engaged in coursework, clinical preparation, internships, and research opportunities. Quinnipiac’s emphasis on experiential learning extends well beyond the classroom and into internships, clinical placements, and research experiences.
At the same time, campus life still offers opportunities for involvement. Quinnipiac has:
- 170 student clubs
- 12 living-learning communities
- Strong school spirit surrounding athletics
- Nearby outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking trails in a nearby state park
Admissions and Scholarships
Quinnipiac is test-optional for most majors, though certain specialized programs maintain testing requirements. According to admissions representatives:
- The Physician Assistant program averages around a 1310 SAT
- Students applying to the 3+3 law program must score at least a 1200 SAT to be considered
Admissions staff also emphasized that demonstrated interest matters at Quinnipiac, particularly for health sciences applicants. Students interested in these programs are encouraged to visit campus and apply Early Action when possible.
Merit scholarships are automatically considered with the application process, with awards generally ranging from $24,000 to $35,000 annually depending on weighted GPA. Quinnipiac also extends certain scholarships into graduate study for students in accelerated programs.
