Before they ever begin working with students, our test prep tutors complete an extensive training program designed to ensure they are fully prepared to deliver high-quality, personalized instruction. This training goes far beyond simply knowing the material—it’s about understanding how to teach it effectively, how to adapt to different learning styles, and how to guide students strategically through the ACT and SAT.

During this initial training period, tutors gain a deep understanding of our curriculum, instructional approach, and expectations for working with students and families. They take full-length practice exams, review key content areas, and learn how to analyze results in order to identify strengths, target weaknesses, and create customized study plans. Tutors also spend significant time reviewing our lesson materials and resources so they feel confident and fluent using them in real tutoring sessions.

A key component of the training process is observation and mentorship. New tutors regularly shadow sessions with experienced team members, learning how best to structure time, explain concepts, keep students engaged, and adjust pacing based on a student’s needs.

Training doesn’t stop once a tutor begins working independently. We believe that great tutoring requires continual learning and reflection. Our tutors participate in ongoing professional development through monthly training meetings, where we discuss trends we’re seeing on the ACT and SAT, share strategies for challenging question types, and troubleshoot common student issues. Recent sessions have included panels of veteran tutors sharing insights, collaborative activities like building mock exams, and focused strategy workshops for specific test sections.

Tutors also meet regularly with our Test Prep Director to review each student’s progress, testing plans, and goals. Early on, the Director observes a tutoring session and provides individualized feedback and guidance. When a student’s practice scores aren’t improving as expected, our team works collaboratively to reassess the approach and identify new strategies to help that student move forward.

In addition, we stay connected to the broader test prep community through professional organizations like the National Test Prep Association, ensuring our tutors remain informed about best practices and evolving test trends.

The result is a team of tutors who are not only experts in the ACT and SAT, but who are also thoughtful educators who continually refine their skills to best support each and every student.
