High School Admissions Counseling

How We Help: Boarding & Private School Admissions

The boarding and private school admissions process can feel overwhelming for families.

With hundreds of schools across the country, each offering different academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, and learning environments, finding the right fit requires thoughtful research, planning, and strategy.

Boarding and private school advising provides families with expert guidance to navigate this complex and competitive landscape. Our experienced advisors work one-on-one with students and their families to identify schools that align with each student’s academic strengths, interests, and personal goals.

We begin by getting to know your family. Our goal is to develop a clear understanding of what will help your student thrive. From there, we build a personalized admissions plan designed to maximize acceptance outcomes while ensuring the schools selected are the right fit.

With a customized strategy in place and expert guidance throughout, we help students approach the process with clarity and confidence.

Comprehensive Counseling Includes:

  • Developing a personalized list of boarding and/or private schools based on fit, goals, and interests
  • Advising on academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, and school culture
  • Creating a strategic application timeline and admissions plan
  • Preparing students for interviews with coaching and mock sessions
  • Providing guidance on application components, including essays and short responses
  • Advising on teacher recommendations and school communication
  • Supporting students and families through admissions decisions and enrollment choices
  • Helping families evaluate options and confidently select the best-fit school

Who Do We Work With?

We most commonly support students applying to middle school and high school programs, including both boarding and private schools. We also work with select families applying to early elementary and kindergarten programs.

Our students have a wide range of goals and interests, from those seeking academically rigorous environments or specialized programs, to those looking for strong learning support, arts, athletics, or unique experiential opportunities. No matter the path, our focus is on helping each student find a school community where they can succeed and grow.

FAQs

Q: Who do you work with?

A: We work with middle school and high school students across the US and internationally with wide ranging interests and goals. Some examples include:

  • Students applying to highly selective schools like Choate, Exeter, Andover, and Deerfield.
  • Students who want to experience the camaraderie and independence of life at boarding school
  • Student athletes looking to play their sport at a higher level, or try a new sport not offered at home, such as rowing, squash, mountain biking, skiing, or sailing.
  • Students who want to experience a competitive dance or arts program, a world class robotics team, those who want to learn from the Harkness method
  • Students “reclassing” or repeating a year or doing a Post Graduate (PG year)
  • Students who benefit from learning support services along with a rigorous curriculum
  • And many, many more!

Q: What is the timeline for boarding school admissions?  OR, When is the right time to start working with Galin Education for boarding or day school admission?

A: We typically start working with students in the spring or summer before the application year. We use the time before the application process begins to get to know the student and family, discuss goals for high school, research schools, etc. We also work with students who are coming to the application process late. Even if the deadline has passed, we can help families to find schools that still have openings.

Q: Can you work with us if we don’t live nearby?

A: Yes, we successfully work with students from all over the world. We assist families with the day and boarding school process at schools across the US.

"You were so helpful with the admissions process, but also in talking to us about boarding school life and ways to succeed there. It was like having someone in-the-know who was rooting us on throughout the year."
