Thursday, January 14  COVID-19: Stress, Self-Care, and Mental Health

John Bruner, Ph.D., Psychologist, The Psychology Center, Madison

This presentation will focus on stress, the pandemic, and how to cope. Topics will include understanding levels of stress reactions, how to cope using dialectical thinking (a type of thinking focusing on balance and validation), and when to seek out professional help.

Dr. John Bruner is a licensed psychologist at The Psychology Center on Madison’s west side. He works in therapy with adults and provides psychological evaluations for a range of conditions, especially ADHD and learning disorders. Dr. Bruner is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and earned his PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Akron.

Thursday, February 11 Academic Red Flags & The Role of Psychoeducational Assessment in Our COVID-19 World

The presentation aims to provide parents with information about academic “red flags” and will help parents to better understand when it is necessary to seek out academic supports for a child. Additionally, the presentation will provide information about psychoeducational assessment and its role in a child’s academic career. 

Dr. Elizabeth Hagermoser-Bayley is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Educational Psychology Department at UW-Madison. She is a licensed psychologist and holds the National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP). Dr. Hagermoser-Bayley serves as Co-Director of the School Psychology Training Clinic and supervises the clinical and school-based training experiences of graduate students through the School Psychology Training Clinic (SPTC), Student Assessment Services (SAS), and in school districts across South Central Wisconsin. Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member in August 2020, Dr. Hagermoser-Bayley worked as an outpatient child and adolescent psychologist on the West side of Madison, Wisconsin.

Marci Speich, Backyard Yoga

Self care, mindful listening, and present moment awareness can all lead to a more positive and mindful family. Participate in an experiential session where Marcella Speich will provide a brief introduction to mindfulness, share ideas for becoming a more mindful family, and lead some simple mindfulness practices.  

Marcella Speich is a mindfulness teacher, yoga instructor and elementary educator with over 20 years of experience. She works in MMSD as a Positive Behavior Support Coach and Mindfulness Teacher and owns an onsite yoga business called Backyard Yoga.
