Test Prep Tutor (Part-Time) (All Locations)

Part-time test prep tutors work with students to help them achieve their goals on the ACT, SAT, AP exams, and SAT Subject Tests.

Requirements

  • A score above the 97th percentile on either the ACT (roughly composite of 31 or higher, based on year of the test) or SAT (roughly score of 1400/2100 or higher, based on year of the test);
  • Previous experience in education as a teacher or tutor;
  • Access to a car or reliable transportation;
  • Flexibility in evenings and/or weekends;
  • Willingness to commit to at least six sessions (50-minutes each) per week (with opportunity for more hours if desired) during summer and school-year;
  • Ability to attend twice-monthly evening training (all training is paid at the training rate);
  • A commitment of at least 18 months (ideally 2 years);

College Admissions Counselor (Part- or Full-Time) (All Locations & Remote)

We are currently seeking to hire College Counselors to work with high school students and their families through the college admissions process. This position may be part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate’s preference. The full-time position is salaried, with final compensation depending on experience; with a growing organization, there is much room for future growth in both salary and responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Services (60%)
    • Work with roughly 30 students (full-time) in each graduating class through all aspects of the college admissions process;
    • Communicate with parents on a regular basis;
    • Make use of publicly available data to inform advice and expertise;
    • Participate in continuing education / professional development.
  • Building a Caseload (30%)
    • Write blogs and articles targeted at high school students and their parents;
    • Coordinate events to speak publicly about college admissions;
    • Develop relationships with local high school counselors and other educational experts.
  • Management (10%)
    • Delegate and oversee projects given to interns and client services personnel;
    • Ensure a friendly and comfortable office environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required / advanced degree preferred;
  • A minimum of three years of experience in admissions at a selective college OR a minimum of five years of experience working as a counselor in a high school;
  • Exceptional writing skills;
  • Exceptional communication skills;

College Essay Coach (Part-Time) (Madison, WI)

College Essay Coaches guide and encourage high school students throughout the entire college application essay writing process, from brainstorming possible topics to finally proofreading essays in preparation for submission.

Responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one with a student as the student brainstorms, drafts, revises, and/or edits a college application essay
  • Manage and work with a small group of students as they write and revise their college application essays
  • Edit student essays remotely using our Google Docs-based editing software
  • Help a student scour a university’s website for programming and opportunities that fit the student’s academic, career, and social interests
  • Lead and/or design small workshops to help students understand a particular type of college application essay or writing technique
  • Track and facilitate your students’ progress towards completing their college application essays comfortably before the submission deadline

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with middle school, high school, and/or college students, particularly in the field of language arts
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (undergraduate candidates with significant training in writing instruction, tutoring, and/or editing may also be considered)
  • Impeccable communication skills, particularly in high-stakes writing and editing
  • Mastery of G Suite products (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Able to work 10-15 hours/week in the summer and fall, 5-8 hours/week in the spring (hours may include some remote essay editing out-of-office)

Academic Coach (Part-Time) (All Locations)

At Galin, our Academic Coaches work one-on-one with middle school, high school, and college students to help them become successful in school and life. Our coaches provide students with the skills to be successful now and in the future. When working with students, coaches will teach methods to plan and manage their time, prioritize, become more organized, and process information through notetaking, studying, and reading. Our coaches must be able to create strong relationships with students, increase their confidence, and help face them overcome challenges.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or Graduate school student preferred
  • Experience working with students in grades 6-12 and college, preferably students with ADHD, anxiety, or other learning struggles
  • Candidates who are currently or working towards becoming Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Special Education teachers, or general education teachers are preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in-person, via phone, and email with parents of students
  • Availability to work at least 5 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in evenings and/or weekends
  • Commitment of at least 12 months

Director of Education (Full-Time) (Madison, WI)

The Director of Education (ED) manages our test preparation and tutoring services. Often, the ED is the first point of contact for most of our prospective and current families. This person must have impeccable communication skills, on the phone, via email, and through mass communications, be able to connect with both high school students and their parents, be incredibly knowledgeable about standardized tests and tutoring pedagogy, and be able to recruit, hire, train, and manage other tutors. The ED spends approximately half his/her time working with prospective and current students and the other half working with prospective and current tutors. This is a salaried position and compensation is competitive. There are opportunities for commission and bonuses. Start date is flexible.

Responsibilities:

  • Tutor Management (20%)
    • Develop an execute marketing plan for recruiting prospective tutors;
    • Evaluate potential tutors by conducting initial phone screens, meeting for in-person interviews, reviewing sample lessons, conducting background checks, and reaching out to references;
    • On-board new tutors through orientation and initial training;
    • Communicate with tutors throughout their time with Galin Education;
    • Monitor tutor calendars and scheduling;
    • Conduct semi-annual tutor evaluations using a 360 review process leading to a tutor development plan;
    • Coordinate weekly to monthly tutor training sessions.
  • Tutoring Program Management (20%)
    • Oversee the tutoring and test preparation programs;
    • Speak with prospective clients about Galin Education services;
    • Assist in matching students with tutors;
    • Set up students and families at Galin Education with materials and on our digital tools;
    • Communicate with parents on a regular basis;
  • Direct Services (40%)
    • Tutor at least 15 hours a week
  • Curriculum Development (10%)
    • Create, curate, and collaborate on curriculum development projects.
  • Marketing (10%)
    • Deliver talks to small groups of parents;
    • Work with schools to educate them on our test preparation and tutoring services;
    • Speak with teachers in local schools about how we can assist their curricula.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) from a top tier school;
  • Experience in education (classroom teaching or significant tutoring);
  • Score roughly at or above the 95th percentile on standardized exams;
  • Ability to teach all sections of the ACT and/or SAT;
  • Strong customer service skills and comfort communicating with high school students and parents, individually and in groups;
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to multitask, set priorities, and manage time;
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and precision in all communications;
  • Intermediate skills in social media platforms and Microsoft Excel;

Office Assistant (Summer, 20-30 hrs/wk) (Madison)

We are looking for someone to handle office operations in our Madison location about 20-30 hours a week (Sundays 9-5, M-Th 4-8 starting June 1st with additional training in April & May). Compensation: $15-$17/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Front desk and reception duties, including answering phones, greeting visitors, distributing incoming mail, and coordinating outgoing mail;
  • Manage basic office operations during the test(s), including answering phone calls and emails and directing questions to the administration;
  • Managing study room reservations;
  • Administer practice tests to small groups and individual students;
  • Enter test responses into grading system;
  • Coordinating in-office events, including workshops and practice exams; and
  • Keeping office neat and tidy, including set up and break down of moveable furniture for events.
