Five Reasons to Consider UW-Eau Claire
Wisconsin students don’t need to look far for great educational options! This week, Galin’s college counselors talked to an admissions representative from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Located on the banks of the Chippewa River, UW-Eau Claire offers opportunities across the arts, health sciences, and more. Read on for five reasons to consider UW-Eau Claire!
Health Sciences Research:
UW-Eau Claire has a unique partnership with the Mayo Clinic Health System (one of just three schools to have such a research agreement) that allows professors and undergraduate students to work alongside Mayo Clinic staff. The Blugold Biomedical Innovator Scholars program offers students the opportunity to begin conducting undergraduate research with professors and Mayo Clinic professionals as freshmen. Students selected as Scholars also receive an $8000 renewable scholarship.
Expanding and Vibrant:
Eau Claire is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state with consistent expansion, new businesses, and population growth. Campus is expanding too, with a new Health Sciences Building and the Sonnentag Fieldhouse coming soon. The Health Science building will include clinic and research space for Mayo Clinic staff along with classrooms and labs. The Sonnentag Fieldhouse will be the largest events center in northwest Wisconsin, as well as housing athletic facilities, a fitness center, and a Mayo sports medicine clinic.
Performing Arts:
Downtown Eau Claire is located just across the Chippewa River from main campus, offering students access to the city’s vibrant art scene which includes a huge outdoor sculpture tour and the Pablo Center for performing arts. The Pablo Center hosts concerts, theater performances, and more. It also contains a costume shop and recording studio, with UW-EC musical theater courses often being held in the building.
Study Abroad:
If Eau Claire’s access to both natural resources like hiking trails and nearby Minneapolis (just an hour and a half by car) isn’t enough variety, UW-EC offers many opportunities for students to spend a few weeks or a semester exploring elsewhere. Students can participate in traditional study abroad, shorter immersion trips, or domestic exchange programs.
Launch Opportunity:
Need extra support transitioning to college, or GPA not quite strong enough for admission? UW-EC’s Launch Program allows promising students to live on the Eau Claire campus while taking courses led by faculty from the Barron County branch campus. Students receive resources and support and transition to full-status Eau Claire students after one year.
