The University of Vermont is a public research university that considers itself just the right size. At 11,000 undergraduates and more than 100 majors, UVM offers the opportunities of a large school with a smaller campus’s individualized student attention. Read on to find out if scenic Burlington, Vermont and UVM might be a good fit for you.
Research & involvement: UVM has more than 200 clubs and student organizations and offers many opportunities for students to engage in research–even as soon as their freshman year! The Office of Fellowships, Opportunities, and Undergraduate Research (FOUR) connects students to campus resources designed to further engagement and learning both in and out of the classroom. FOUR hosts a research conference, helps students find internships, and provides support for pre-health planning. With 80% of students participating in at least one club or organization and 40% of seniors having researched with faculty members, UVM has many options for students who want to get involved.
Live & learn: All students live on campus their first four semesters, choosing from a selection of residential learning communities. These learning communities provide extra programming, faculty connection, and a shared point of interest for all residents. With themes like Global Connections, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Gaming Collective, Arts & Creativity, there’s a community for everyone!
Access to nature: UVM students love to get outside! Doing so is easy with the campus’s proximity to Lake Champlain and numerous surrounding ski hills. The school boasts the second oldest Outing Club in the nation, which encourages all students to join off-campus adventures like rock climbing, kayak trips, and hikes.
Automatic scholarship consideration: All applicants are automatically considered for select merit-based awards without needing to complete a separate application! Out-of-state applicants are considered for Trustee and Presidential scholarships (valued at up to $25,000 per year) with their application to UVM.
If any of these appeal to you, consider adding the University of Vermont to your college list!
